When the COVID crisis hit, suddenly a lot of our younger peers were without the educational resources they needed. It turned out that filling this void was easier than expected - we didn't need more teachers, just fellow students who could teach the younger students what we've already learned. So here we are, a handful of enthusiastic high school students in Vancouver who love sharing our passion for learning.

Leona Li

Public Debate Instructor

Leona Li is a current student of Mulgrave School, being in grade 10 this year, this is her 8th year in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program with an average of 6-7 in all her courses for 3 consecutive years. Leona takes IB HL French and Mathematics (Grade 11 pre-calculus), completed the BC ministry requirements of social studies 10 and science 10 by the middle of grade 9. Leona has 4 years of debate experience, placing in the top 5% of World Scholar’s Cup Yale Tournament of Champions for Junior Independent Debate 2018 in addition to other accomplishments throughout WSC 2017 and 2018 (Qualifying and Achieving medals for TOC). She placed 7th place individually at the BL Invitational Tournament 2018.

Luna Liu

​Math & Computer Science Instructor

Luna Liu is a 10th-grade student at York House School. She is a honourable mention student who currently has a 99% in Programming 11. She is the founder and head of her school's Programming Club and placed in the top 1% of this year's Canadian Computing Contest. This year, Luna has begun writing and uploading her own podcast series, Luna Lab, in which she covers various technology topics through the lens of Generation Z. Luna hopes to share her knowledge and experiences in computer sciences with fellow younger students in order to make this more known to young people.

Paul Zhang

​French & Science Instructor

Paul Zhang is in grade 10 and attends Handsworth Secondary School. He is currently in science 10 and Chemistry 11 both with a grade of 100%. He has also started taking Biology 11 and will be taking both AP Biology and AP Chemistry in the fall. In addition to these academic successes , Paul has also recently taken an online anatomy course through Coursera with the University of Michigan with a grade of 99%. He is receiving a 97% in his pre-calculus 11 course in addition to his success in the sciences. Paul was enrolled in Late French Immersion from the sixth grade and continued until the ninth. He is currently in French 12 with a current grade of 95%. He also has had experience teaching as he taught at Sunday School and was a day camp leader at the Vancouver Aquarium.

Danielle Lu

Literature & French Insturctor

Danielle Lu is currently a grade 10 student at Crofton House School. She enrolled in the Late French Immersion program in grade 6 and continued until grade 9, where she was accepted into Crofton House School. She has been taking accelerated French ever since. She is taking French 12 next year in hopes of taking AP French Language and Culture in grade 12.

Amy Liu

Math & Mandarin & Chinese Culture Insturctor

Amy Liu is currently a grade 10 student at Argyle Secondary. She is from Mainland China, and completed grade 8 before she came to Canada. Her Chinese grade was always A+ from grade 1 to grade 8, and her math consistently exceeds school expectations. She has won many provincial and national Chinese writing and math competitions during her school years in China. She was invited to represent Shenzhen elementary school students in a writing sharing conference in Hong Kong, and still enjoy reading and writing in Chinese very much. She got 95% for Pre-calculus 11 this year and plans on taking AP Calculus next year.

Terry Wang

Math & Cryptography & Number Theory  Computer Science Instructor 

Terry Wang is a St. Georges Student in Gr. 10, his main interests are in mathematics. He has participated and achieved outstanding results in many national competitions and olympiads such as AMC 10, Pascal and COMC. In addition, he also enjoys teaching, participating in his school's peer tutoring program.

Amy Zhang

​Science Instructor

Amy Zhao is in grade 11 and attends J.N. Burnett Secondary. She finished chemistry 11 with 100% and is currently studying chemistry 12 with 97%. She has also finished Biology 11 with 96%. In the mathematics field, she has a 98% in pre-calculus 11, 100% in pre-calculus 12, and is currently taking AP calculus. Amy has also had experience in teaching as she was a professional swimming instructor.

​Karen Situ

​Math Instructor

Karen is a grade 11 student at University Hill Secondary with 4 years of teaching experience in math and math competitions. She's been actively participating in competitions including AMC, CEMC math contests, and COMC. In 2018, she was invited to the Canadian International Math Olympiad Winter Training Camp and Team Canada at the European Girls’ Math Olympiad (EGMO), where she received an honorable mention award. She's also a two-time participant in the Canadian EGMO Team Selection Test (2019, 2020).

Anna Dai

Public Speaking & Debate Instructor 

I’m Anna Dai, a grade 9 student at Collingwood School. I have won the 5th place at BC British Parliamentary Debate Provincials and qualified for Canadian British Parliamentary Nationals. Debate is an enjoyable activity and I am excited to be your instructor!

Alina Zhang

Math & Public Debate Instructor

Alina Zhang is currently a Grade 9 student at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary who has a strong interest in debate and public speaking. Alina has 2 years of experience in debate. Since 2018, she has placed 1st place in the 2018 WPGA Global Affair debate tournament, 1st place in the 2019 LMW Regional Tournament, 2nd place in the novice category of the 2019 BCLFC Provincial Tournament, 5th place in the junior category in the 2020 BCLFC Provincial Tournament. This year, she also qualified for the 2020 Canadian National Debate Tournament, placing 2nd place among all the qualifying teams. Alina is currently a teaching assistant at her school debate club and has a strong passion in helping others carrying out their interests in debate and public speaking.
